Arborists perform an Aerial Tree Inspection to adequately assess the condition of a tree. A defect on a tree may be positioned in an area not visible from ground level or is too high up to accurately assess its likely implication. This is often the case with tall trees, ivy-covered trees, or trees that have dense crowns.
At Holly Arb, we follow the NPTC procedures to conduct aerial tree inspections. This form of inspection is undertaken on mature or veteran trees where characteristics that can create a safety issue, are more common. An initial ground-based visual inspection will be carried out, after which it will be decided whether an aerial inspection is required.
If the ground-based inspection indicates a defect such as a large wound, cavity, splits, or decay fungi, a more detailed inspection may need to be implemented, involving an aerial tree inspection. This results in an accurate assessment of the tree’s condition and allows Holly Arb to provide specific work recommendations. Aerial inspections help create a clearer picture of the tree’s structural stability and also allow for cost-effective and possible bat roost investigations using endoscopes.
