Woodland Suite at The Montenotte Hotel, Cork city
Nestled in Cork, the Montenotte Hotel is celebrated for its exquisite blend of luxury and natural beauty. As the hotel embarked on the development of its new Woodland Suite—an exclusive space designed to offer guests a tranquil, immersive experience in nature—Holly Arboriculture was invited to contribute its expertise.
We were instructed to carry out a detailed tree survey of the tree population. This informed the design team when planning out the project, ensuring the development respected and preserved the native woodland while maintaining safety and harmony within the landscape.

A detailed tree survey of the tree population was carried out, informing the architects of the age, location and condition of these trees.
Challenges & Solutions
One of the primary challenges in this project was accommodating the needs of the Woodland Suite without compromising the health and integrity of the mature trees surrounding it. Several of these trees, due to their age and location, required specific root protection measures and low-impact construction practices. They were identified in the tree survey and brought to the architects attention.
Project Outcome
The Woodland Suite now offers guests a unique and serene experience, surrounded by Cork’s natural beauty. Holly Arboriculture’s involvement at the beginning allowed architects Henry J Lyons Architects and Róisín Lafferty to understand the trees that were on site and the condition of these trees. Through proactive management, they ensured that the woodland’s character and integrity was sustained, offering a lasting benefit to the hotel and its guests.

We are thrilled to share that The Montenotte Hotel’s new Woodland Suite Experience, which we had the privilege of working on, has just received the prestigious Five-Star Classification from Fáilte Ireland. This one-of-a-kind experience, the first of its kind in Ireland, is now attracting both domestic and international guests to Cork, further cementing the hotel’s status as one of Ireland’s premier luxury destinations.
